My amaryllis, which days ago seemed so ready to pop out in red blooms, seems interminably stuck as it grows taller by the day. I feel like I am pacing the floors of the delivery room just waiting for it to give birth. My mistake may have been in fertilizing it last week, which perhaps encouraged growth but didn't promote blooming. In fear of those lanky stalks collapsing under their weight, I went to the basement tonight in search of a dowel, which I have now added with string to support the two competing bloom shafts. I'm not sure what the little green thing is that seems to have sprouted out of the place where the bulbs come together. I never remember it taking so long before once the it got a mind to bloom. This plant has forever been a lesson in patience.
