I love this crazy plant. it was a gift to me when I was recuperating after breaking my hip 5 years ago. When it arrived it had huge red flowers on both stalks. After they fell off, I wasn't sure I would see blooms again. But usually about this time of year, it shoots up green bloom pods like those above that grow inches every day and quickly open up to expose more beautiful red flowers.
Last year was the exception because young Ari particularly liked chewing on the amaryllis bulbs. But it seems to have survived a teething puppy to bloom once again.
It seems like such an other-worldly plant that is totally unpredictable. I will be sure to post a photo when the red blooms once again appear!
